Breaking Ground - Braeden's Big Day!

Everything seemed to fall into place a few days before we were leaving for vacation.  So, two days before we left, Tracy and Mike Miller, from Mike Miller Signature Concrete http://mikemillersignatureconcrete.webs.com met us at the building site to stake the house.  My dad had already brought the excavator, so Tracy had the great idea to allow Braeden to "break ground".  I think Mike was a little skeptical and then a bit surprised by how well Braeden could run the equipment.  Braeden was so proud of himself.  While Papaw was in the excavator with him, he didn't touch a thing.  Our baby boy did it all!

Selecting a Builder

Brian and I spent countless hours meeting with builders.  After our first meeting, we knew who we really connected with and felt the most comfortable with.  However, we felt we owed it to ourselves to look at all of our options.  We met with six different builders.  With most, we knew within the first five minutes that they were not the builder for us.  It came down to two and in our heart of hearts, we knew who we wanted to build our house from the very beginning.  After approximately 5-6 three or four hour meetings, we made our decision.  We chose Edwards Construction and are so happy that we will be working with Tracy over the next 6 months.  My father has worked with Tracy for many years and on many projects, but it was important for us to be certain he was the one for us......and we are certainly glad we chose him!

Blessed!

Wow!  We are so blessed to be building a house on the farm we love.  Knowing that my grandparents lived here and raised their family, as well as loved the land as we have and that my mother and father have worked tirelessly to enhance the farm's legacy through conservation and good farming practices makes it even more special that we have been given the precious opportunity to raise our sweet boy here.  Thank you mom and dad!

I lived quite a few places directly after high school including dorms, apartments and two other family farms.  When I moved into our current home, which is my grandparent's home, I swore I would never move again!  Now that we are building a house.....I am wondering if moving back the lane counts, technically, as moving.  I despise eating my own words....they taste terrible : )

It has been an interesting journey to this point.  It took me years and years to get Brian to consider adding on to our current house.  We often laugh at how we began this process by having a builder, who ended up becoming our home builder, come and give us an estimate on adding a room upstairs.  By the end of that conversation, we were considering adding a master bedroom, closet(which we have very little of currently), and an office since I work from home.  At that time, our builder asked why we were not building a new home with all that we were planning for our current home.  Brian and I looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders.  So here we are.....the journey begins......
