Pouring the Basement Floor

This was a big day AND it was a Saturday.......so we got to see it from start to finish!  The process was so interesting.  As you can tell by the amount of photos, we were able to observe the entire process AND I got some great photos of my sweet boy in the process!  Unfortunately, the photos are not in order, but you get the idea!

He is one handsome boy and completely in his element during this whole process.  He loves showcasing his "talent" for driving all of the equipment for anyone who comes back to see the house including all of the construction guys : )  Also, that is my nephew, Trey's Carhartt.  Trey is now 19 and in college.   I can remember him wearing it when he was 9 or 10....Braeden is only 6!!!

Mike, Sonny, and the crew completing the final corner of the basement.

Here comes another cement truck!

The man who controls it all.  We thought it was so cool that the pumper truck works like a giant remote control!

It is amazing how quickly the cement sets up!

So handsome!  He is the most special boy in the world!  Love him so much!

This will be the basement bathroom.  At the last minute, we went ahead and put in a downstairs shower......just in case our sweet boy wants to move down there when he is a teen to get away from his "best" mommy and daddy : )

Best buddies!  Look at how much they look alike.  Papaw came up in the Kubota to keep Braeden warm so he could watch since he has been sick.  He sure has been missing his Grandma and Poppy in CT.  Thank goodness for FaceTime!  Can't wait till they can come out and see the progress on the house!

Utilities

Dad, Dave, and Junior have been working on the utilities.  Water, gas, and the telephone line is in one ditch, while the electric is in a ditch by itself.  South Central Power Company came Friday and put the electric line in the ditch.  They also set the transformer back by the house.  We were very pleased to find out that they would lay the line free of charge if we opened the ditch.  Unfortunately, this was not without it's fair share of issues.  The starter on the Bobcat stuck after the trencher was put on it.  Mom had to go to London to get the needed part.   We are very happy to get rid of the existing electric poles.  Dad, Junior and Dave dug and then laid the water pipe all the way back.  They also put in the telephone line and Kelly I. came to hook it up.

Preparing to Pour the Floor of the Basement and Garage

Gravel has been hauled in for the driveway

The garage has been compacted and prepared for the floor to be poured.

The walls have been back-filled.  There is still some work to do, but the majority has been completed.

Another shot of the garage.

The footers seen here are for the supports.

This is the rough in for the bathroom in the basement.
Starting to prepare the porch.  However, this will not be poured until after the framing is completed.

Another shot of the basement.

As you can see from the pictures, quite a bit of time has been spent in preparation for pouring the floors in the basement and garage.  They have compacted, smoothed and compacted some more!  Also, Dave has rough graded all areas around the house.  In addition, the plumbing for the basement bathroom has been roughed in.  We decided to go ahead and put in a shower downstairs in case Braeden decides he wants to move down there when he gets in high school.  I'm sure by then, he will want to be as far away from us as possible : )
